Toxic Gas Leak at a Pharma Company Claims One Life; Many Injured

Visakhapatnam: A gas leak at the Tagoor Pharma Company in Parwada, Anakapalli district, killed a 23-year-old worker and seriously affected several workers. The incident occurred late on Tuesday night.

The deceased was Amit Bhag from Orissa. The leak resulted in breathing difficulties for nine employees. They were hospitalised in a critical condition.

Among these were CH Shekhar and T Chinni Krishna who remained in a serious condition on Wednesday, while six others -- Veera Babu, Papa Rao, Anil Kumar, Vijay Bhaskar and Shaanti Kumar were in a stable condition, doctors at the KIMS Icon Hospital said.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has enquired about the condition of the affected with the district collector and SP and directed that all necessary support be provided to them.

Home minister Vangalapudi Anita expressed her concern and said, “Despite prior warnings on safety measures following previous accidents, companies continue to show negligence.” She said strict action would be taken against the errant after a detailed investigation.

CPM district secretary K Lokanatham and CITU district vice presidentGani Shetty Satyanarayana visited the site and demanded a thorough investigation into the leak.
