Tribal poverty to be eradicated with a comprehensive plan, claims Andhra Pradesh CM

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has promised to eradicate poverty among the state’s tribals with a comprehensive plan.

Under this, road connectivity to 2,191 villages and clean drinking water for every tribal family would be arranged with a fund of Rs 2,373 crore. This apart, study circles will be formed for tribal students in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati and Chaitanyam 2.0 Programme would be introduced for tribal development, he said.

Naidu was addressing a gathering as part of the World Adivasi Day celebrations here on Friday.

The chief minister participated in the Thimsa dance programme along with tribal women and later presented a sari to the goddess of these tribals.

Naidu noted, “It is really pathetic to know about the doli requirement (for taking patients to hospitals) in tribal areas when the whole world is talking about Artificial Intelligence (AI).”

He said, "Poverty will be completely eradicated among the tribals with a comprehensive plan and study circles will soon be established in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati exclusively for the Adivasis."

Announcing that the Chaitanyam 2.0 (Awareness-2.0) programme will be taken up for the overall progress of tribals, the chief minister said road connectivity will be provided soon to 2,191 tribal villages. “Safe drinking water will be supplied to every tribal household, with a Rs 2,373 crore plan,” he said.

“Our government will not show any discrimination against anyone,” he stressed.

He announced that the work on the Paderu medical college would be completed with an allocation of Rs 500 crore. “A museum will be set up at Lambasingi for the freedom fighters.”

“I am really concerned that the Adivasis are born poor and are living in absolute poverty. This situation needs to be changed immediately. The huge amount of public money looted by the leaders of the previous government will be completely recovered and this amount will be spent for the welfare of the poor."

The chief minister also said organic products would be encouraged more effectively and a fillip given to Araku coffee powder.

Stating that the District Selection Committee (DSC) recruitments have been announced recently to fill 16,347 vacant posts, Naidu said free coaching would be provided to the Adivasi candidates who seek to appear for this test.

The chief minister said the schemes and welfare programmes suspended by the previous government would be reintroduced in a more effective manner.

Naidu also said Anna Canteens would be set up in the tribal areas. The Land Titling Act has been revoked to check the attempts made by the previous government to illegally grab the lands of innocent persons, he said.
