Tribesmen Carry Mother, her Newborn in Doli Amid Heavy Rain

Visakhapatnam: The journey home for tribal woman Tamara Lakshmi and her newborn baby started pleasantly in an ambulance provided by the King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam.

The ambulance, however, dropped Lakshmi, resident of Valabu village in Devarapalli mandal, and her newborn, on the main road, as there is no road to their village just two kilometres away.

Lakshmi’s fellow tribesmen carried her and her baby in “doli” to their village. But a heavy rain made their journey risky for both the mother and child.

Their travail highlights the urgent necessity for improved road facilities, particularly to tribal villages, such as Kodapalli and Ramannapalem.

District CPM secretary D. Venkanna expressed disappointment over the government’s failure to provide a road to such tribal villages, just seven kilometres from Devarapalli mandal. He urged the authorities to take immediate action.
