TTD to Recruit 84 More Workers to Meet Demand for Srivari Laddus
TIRUPATI:Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) trust board has approved recruitment of 84 additional Potu (temple kitchen) workers to address shortage of staff caused by retirements and the increased demand for Srivari laddus and other prasadams.
Currently, TTD employs 616 Potu workers, including 415 Vaishnavas and 201 non-Vaishnavas, who together produce 3.5 lakh small laddus, 6,000 big laddus, and 3,500 vadas daily. However, only 391 Vaishnavas and 200 non-Vaishnavas are in active service. Following this, the trust board has resolved to recruit 74 Vaishnavas and 10 non-Vaishnavas on an outsourcing basis through two societies to meet the rising demand.
The old Boondhi Potu facility has been tasked with increasing production by an additional 50,000 small laddus, 4,000 big laddus and 3,500 vadas daily. A financial analysis by a cost accountant confirms that the initiative is economically sustainable. The projected monthly revenue from the additional production is estimated at ₹11.16 crore. Expenses, including wages, provisions, gas and power costs will come to ₹8.07 crore.
As per the board resolution, production targets necessitate a systematic approach of manpower allocation. To make an additional 51,000 small laddus, 73 workers are required, each producing an average of 700 units daily. Similarly, 12 workers will be needed for 4,080 big laddus, at a rate of 330 units per worker, and 30 workers for 3,570 vadas, each producing 120 units daily. Although the total workforce required to meet these targets is 115, the committee has recommended immediate recruitment of 84 workers to address urgent needs.
The monthly wage of 74 Vaishnavas, at ₹42,137.52 per worker, will amount to ₹31.18 lakh, while the wages 10 non-Vaishnavas will be ₹41,767 per worker, totalling to ₹4.17 lakh. The overall monthly wage expenditure for the additional workforce will be ₹35.36 lakh, with the cost for four months, from December 2024 to March 2025, estimated at ₹1.41 crore.

The newly recruited workers will receive benefits on par with the existing workforce, including ID cards, bus passes, medical books, and darshan privileges. Additionally, the TTD Board has extended the tenure of the existing Potu societies until March 2025 to ensure uninterrupted operations.
The decision, approved by TTD Board chairman B.R. Naidu, will ensure seamless distribution of prasadams to TTD centres in Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore and other cities as well.
