Turangi Residents Demand Merger with Kakinada Municipal Corporation

KAKINADA: The residents of Turangi village in Kakinada Rural mandal demanded that the state government merge their village into Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC).

Jayprakash Narayana Welfare Association (JNWA) convened a meeting at Turangi on Friday. Association honorary president T.S.N. Swamy Naicker demanded that the state government hold Kakinada Municipal Corporation elections only after merging the Turangi village into the KMC. He said local body elections were not held in Turangi village since 2011.

He said basic facilities like drinking water, sanitation and drainage are in poor condition in the village while the administration has failed to protect the government properties and do justice to the people.

JNWA president Joga Appa Rao said the association was making its best efforts to convince the government to merge the village into the KMC for the past one decade.
Though the Governor Ordinance was released merging the six villages into the KMC in 2017, the merger process could not be implemented due to technical reasons. He requested Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan to take an initiative and merge the village into the KMC.

CPM senior leader Ch. Ajay Kumar, D. Nagababu, K. Tatabbayi and Tatavarthi Subba Rao were among those present.
