Two Gold Coins of Princess Akkadevi Found in Telangana

The inscription on the coins, written in Kannada, with characters dating to the 11th century, read: ‘Sri Gunadabedangi’ (Beauty of Virtues).”

Vijayawada: Two gold coins of the Kalyani Chalukya princess Akkadevi have been found in Telangana for the first time, according to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The coins were found near Madugula of Mahbubnagar district, with the help of Hyderabad-based neurosurgeon Dr Dema Raja Reddy.

The inscription on the coins, written in Kannada, with characters dating to the 11th century, read: ‘Sri Gunadabedangi’ (Beauty of Virtues).”

Akkadevi (1010-1064 C.E) was a daughter of Vikramaditya V and sister of Jayasimha-II. She ruled as governor of an area known as Kishukadu, located in the present day districts of Bidar, Bagalkot and Bijapur. She was also called Gunadabedangi, the ASI said.
