Two Held with 31 kg Ganja in Srikakulam

District SP K.V. Maheswara Reddy issued a stern warning against those involved in the illegal drug trade.

Visakhapatnam: The Srikakulam police arrested two individuals in a drug bust at Ichapuram railway station, seizing 31 kg of ganja and two mobile phones.

The accused have been identified as Upendra Swain, 24, and Gyaneswar Sethy, 20, both from Ganjam district. They were apprehended while allegedly attempting to transport the contraband to Surat, Gujarat.

According to a press release from the Srikakulam police, the accused were acting as couriers for a contact identified only as Deepak, from Kodala village. Based on the investigation, Upendra Swain claimed he turned to drug trafficking due to financial difficulties and personal addiction issues.

District SP K.V. Maheswara Reddy issued a stern warning against those involved in the illegal drug trade. "Whether you're trafficking, selling, or consuming ganja, strict action will be taken." He further stated that repeat offenders would face legal consequences, including the opening of rowdy sheets.

He also urged community involvement in combating drug abuse. "Parents must monitor their children's behavior and provide regular counseling to prevent drug addiction," he emphasised.
