Vijayawada: Union minister for rural development Dr. Pemmasani Chandrasekhar asked vehicle users to follow all safety rules, including wearing of helmets by two-wheeler riders and fastening seat belt by motorists.
Participating in the National Road Safety Month 2025 programme at the District Collectorate in Guntur on Wednesday, he observed that obeying the red traffic signal is a green signal for family happiness.
Dr. Chandrasekhar sought to dispel the misconception that wearing helmets leads to hair loss. He pointed out the numerous benefits of wearing helmets, including safety during accidents and protection from dust and debris. He pointed out that hair loss is mainly caused by genetic issues and chemicals, not helmets. He suggested that air-flow helmets could be used for maintaining hair health.
The union minister took part in the Road Safety Month function along with district collector S. Nagalakshmi, district SP Satish Kumar, MLAs Galla Madhavi, Mohammed Naseer Ahmed, B. Ramanjaneyulu and T. Sravan Kumar, and Guntur municipal commissioner Puli Srinivasulu. He flagged off a group of two-wheeler riders who set off to promote the message of following safety measures on roads.
Dr. Chandrasekhar underlined that seat belt usage in vehicles can enhance safety by up to 90 per cent during crashes. He urged young people to control their speed, as reckless driving poses greater risks than fashionable pursuits.
Guntur collector Nagalakshmi said the state government is observing the National Road Safety Month from January 16 to February 15 to raise awareness within the public about adhering to road safety norms.
District SP Satish Kumar highlighted that non-compliance with road safety rules can lead to sudden deaths that devastate families.
Guntur West MLA Galla Madhavi wanted people to follow basic road safety rules, as they protect invaluable lives. Guntur East MLA Mohammed Naseer Ahmed wanted schools to teach children about road safety.
