Vijayawada mayor says VMC collected ₹160.23 crore tax in 2024
Vijayawada:Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) mayor Rayana Bhagya Lakshmi announced that the civic body had collected a record ₹160.23 crore municipal taxes, including property tax, vacant land tax, water cess, and sewerage rent taxes from households within the corporation limits as of December 21 during the 2024–25 fiscal year.
Speaking to media persons at her office in the VMC building on Wednesday, she presented details of a slew of development works executed by the VMC in the city during the year. She said the municipal corporation ensured smooth conduct of Vinayaka Chavithi, Dasara Sarannavaratri and Bhavani Deeksha Viramana festivals, the three major Hindu festivals.
Bhagya Lakshmi said VMC has expanded parks and lung spaces using the 15th Finance Commission funds. It undertook beautification of canal embankments along Bandar, Eluru, and Ryves canals at a cost of ₹10.25 crore. Additionally, ₹3.32 crore had been spent on developing five community parks in Ajith Singh Nagar. ₹2.69 crore got allocated for development of the Iconic Municipal Park in Singh Nagar.
The mayor said the corporation developed vertical gardens and greenery at the two Benz Circle flyovers at a cost of ₹4.41 crore.
She said VMC had laid emphasis on enhancing tax revenue for the civic body. For the purpose, assessment of 2,624 property and vacant lands had been carried out, increasing the tax base by ₹1.43 crore compared to the last year.
