Vikram Sarabhai a great inspiration: Pawan Kalyan
Vijayawada: Deputy Chief Minister (science and technology) K. Pawan Kalyan said that Vikram Sarabhai, the father of the Indian space programme, serves as an inspiration for today’s scientists and his life is a testament to the great results that can be achieved when a scientist like him thinks about the society and the country.
Commemorating the 105th birth anniversary of Vikram Sarabhai on Monday, Pawan Kalyan recalled Sarabhai’s contributions to India’s space programme, his role in setting up the Physical Research Laboratory in Ahmedabad and his success in convincing the erstwhile Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru about the need for satellites.
Pawan also highlighted Sarabhai’s efforts in establishing the Indian National Committee for Space Research, which was the preceding body to ISRO and significantly contributed to the development of the space sector in the country. “Today, India is achieving significant success in space research and related fields because of Sarabhai’s farsighted approach,” Pawan noted.
The Deputy CM emphasised that for India to play a meaningful role internationally, modern-age scientists should embrace Sarabhai’s message that we should not be left behind in using modern science to solve societal problems. Drawing inspiration from Sarabhai, he urged that more discoveries be made in science and technology through research that benefits society.
