Visakhapatnam: Mourning Parents Seek Justice Through a Flexi
Visakhapatnam: Mourning parents of a 12 year Sai Vineet boy who died of a snake bite recently, put up a flexi on the road to hospital in Tekkali in Srikakulam district seeking action against the doctors who they alleged did know the basic difference between a thorn injury and a snake bite that led to the death of their boy.
Pictures and videos of the flexi became sensational and circulated through social media all over the region. The slogans on the flexi said ``tributes to doctors who knew no difference between a thorn injury and a snake bite’’ and appealed to the health commissioner to take action against the erring doctors. They alleged that the doctors wasted two crucial hours to confirm the snake bite.
The appeal in the flexi was made by Dasari Ravi and his wife Dasari Nirosha. It may be recalled that Nirosha wanted to die by suicide by swallowing some tablets soon after returning from the cremation where she saw the horror of her son going up in flames.
Sai Vineet was playing cricket with his friends in Narayanapuram village of Tekkali mandal on May 21. He went to pick up the ball from the bushes, when he was struck by the snake. He felt the bite yet he continued to play the game. Few minutes later he started frothing from mouth and his friends informed his parents. They took him to Tekkali government hospital and from there to RIMS Hospital in an ambulance but he died on the way near Narasannapeta. He was brought down from the ambulance and taken to Narasannapeta government hospital where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.
``We have conducted an inquiry on Sunday by talking to the doctors who were present on that day and spoke to the parents of the deceased boy. We may submit the inquiry report to the collector by Monday evening,’’ said district coordinator of hospital services Dr GV Rajyalakshmi. She said records showed that the boy was given an anti-snake venom dose soon after he was brought to the Tekkali district government hospital.
