Visakhapatnam: Eastern Naval Command (ENC) commemorated Navy Day 2024 with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Victory at Sea War Memorial in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.

Flag Officer Submarines Rear Admiral Chetan Chandegave led the ceremony, which several dignitaries joined, including district collector M.N. Viswanathan, Navy Foundation, Vizag chapter, vice president Rear Admiral T. Sudhakar (Retd), and Zilla Sainik welfare officer G. Satyanandam.

Navy Day is celebrated annually on December 4 to mark the anniversary of Indian Navy's significant achievements during the 1971 War, particularly highlighting Operation Trident, which involved a successful attack on Pakistan’s naval base in Karachi.

The theme for this year’s Navy Day is "Strength and Power through Innovation and Indigenisation." It underscores the Navy's commitment to enhancing its capabilities through advanced technologies and self-reliance.

At the main Navy Day celebration in Puri, Odisha, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi welcomed President Draupadi Murmu, the chief guest. The event showcased an impressive display of naval power, featuring over 15 warships, submarines, and 40 aircraft, along with demonstrations by elite marine commandos (MARCOS) and personnel of the Indian Army.

Traditional elements, such as Beating the Retreat ceremony, complemented modern attractions, including a captivating drone and laser show.
