Vizag collector unveils plans to boost library services
Visakhapatnam: District collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad has announced ongoing efforts to enhance libraries across the district, with support from the state government and cooperation from the Education Minister. Speaking at the inauguration of the 57th National Library Week at the District Central Library on Thursday, Prasad shared his vision for the future of libraries in the region.
Reflecting on the Education Minister's recent visit to local libraries, Prasad highlighted several key suggestions for improvement that emerged during the tour. He assured attendees that special measures are being implemented to elevate the quality and accessibility of library services.
Prasad emphasized the transformative power of reading, stating that books can eliminate ignorance, reduce poverty, and offer a brighter future for today's youth. "Libraries are lighthouses that provide guidance," he said, encouraging students and young people to visit libraries and engage with literature to achieve their goals. Expressing concern over the excessive time young people spend on mobile devices, Prasad urged them to dedicate more time to reading and utilizing library resources.
The district collector noted that all district libraries are well-stocked with a variety of books and magazines, inviting the community to make full use of these resources. He expressed hope that everyone would cultivate a regular reading habit, reinforcing the crucial role libraries play in combating poverty and spreading knowledge.
The event saw a significant turnout, with District Education Officer N. Prem Kumar, Zilla Grandhalaya Samstha Secretary R.C.H. Venkata Rao, and many students in attendance.
