Vizag police recover property worth Rs 88.5 lakh in October crime crackdown

Visakhapatnam: The Visakhapatnam City Police have recovered stolen property worth Rs 88.52 lakh during October 2024, including the recovery of 285 missing mobile phones. The details were revealed during a press conference held on Tuesday at the crime property mela.

Under the direction of the Commissioner of Police Shankhabrata Bagchi, special teams were formed to tackle the 116 property offence cases reported during October. The teams successfully solved 72 cases and arrested 102 offenders using technical methods.
The recovered items include 742.97 grams of gold, 326.48 grams of silver, and cash amounting to Rs 2.88 lakh. A significant portion of the recovery consisted of 298 mobile phones, including 285 missing phones, valued at Rs 42.75 lakh. The police also retrieved 20 motorcycles, three autorickshaws, one tanker lorry, one laptop, and eight batteries.
Breaking down the solved cases, the police reported eight robberies, seven house break-ins by night, one house break-in by day, five snatching incidents, two auto thefts, one lorry theft, and 21 motorcycle theft cases. The remaining 27 cases fell under other theft categories.
In a proactive measure to prevent future crimes, the police installed 294 CCTV cameras across the city during October. The crime wing officers conducted 154 awareness meetings to educate the public about various types of crimes and the importance of CCTV surveillance.
The police have recovered mobile phones through their chatbot service and CEIR portal. Since the initiative's inception, they have recovered 3,764 mobile phones worth Rs 5.64 crore.
