Visakhapatnam: The Visakhapatnam POCSO Court has sentenced Tambari Trinath, a painter from Sai Nagar Colony, Sabbavaram Mandal, to 25 years in prison along with a fine of Rs. 1,25,000 for the repeated rape of a minor girl. The decision was announced by Anakapalli District Superintendent of Police (SP) Tuhin Sinha.
The case dates back to July 7, 2022, when it was reported that Trinath had sexually assaulted the victim multiple times. The girl, whose father had passed away and whose mother subsequently remarried Trinath, remained silent about the abuse due to threats from her stepfather. She feared for her life if she revealed the incidents to her mother.
The breakthrough came when the victim visited her maternal grandmother’s house during a holiday. There, she managed to write a letter detailing the abuse and left it with her grandmother. Upon discovering the letter, her grandmother promptly informed the family, leading to a police report being filed.
Following the registration of the case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Anakapalli District Police launched an investigation.
The district Judge G. Anandi of the POCSO Court delivered the verdict after considering the arguments presented by the Special Public Prosecutor (PP) assigned to the case. In addition to the prison sentence and fine imposed on Trinath, the court ordered that Rs. 4 lakh be paid as compensation to the victim’s family by the government.
