VMRDA Unveils Major Projects to Transform Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam: The Visakhapatnam Metro Regional Development Authority (VMRDA) on Saturday rolled out several ambitious projects that are set to change the face of Visakhapatnam city.
The projects cover entertainment, science and technology, information technology, revival of urban lakes and urban greenery. Interacting with media, commissioner of VMRDA KS Viswanathan said there was a proposals to develop multiple projects atop Kailasagiri hills, one of the most visited places in the city which include an amusement park, a science museum adjacent to the World Telugu Museum, a revolving restaurant and a project for destination weddings.
Similarly, discussions were on for developing the Habitat Center at Madhurawada where multiple platforms would provide theater, literary festivals and a library. “We will soon call for expressions of interest from agencies to take up these projects,’’ the commissioner said. He said it was proposed in 2018 for developing an IT complex at Madhurawada where 31-floor and a 14 floor towers would be developed including a five-star hotel. An urban entertainment is also proposed to come up in the same area.
Another project to rejuvenate urban water bodies is being planned with the association of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, the commissioner revealed. “We have identified 521 water bodies in the urban area of Visakhapatnam and some would be taken up by VMRDA and some GMVC,” Viswanathan said. He said two NGOs- Dhan Foundation and Environmentalist Foundation of India (EFI ) have been working on protection of water bodies and the VMRDA might take their assistance. The commissioner said a snow park in Central Park, a helicopter museum and a subway near Visakhapatnam Airport were also in the pipeline. Regarding housing, the commissioner said LIG and MIG homes would be proposed to cater for the needs of middle income groups.
