Volunteers to Manage Traffic in Gajuwaka

Visakhapatnam: The Visakhapatnam City police, in association with Vizag chapter of AP Chamber of Commerce and Industry, launched a new concept of traffic management called ‘Traffic Stretch Management’ in Gajuwaka on Saturday.

Under this concept, 15 volunteers were appointed to manage the traffic from Sheelanagar to Gajuwaka. A traffic outpost was inaugurated on the occasion. Speaking at the meeting, commissioner of police Dr A. Ravi Shankar said it became necessary to involve the public in traffic management due to increasing road accidents. “We are losing one life or someone suffering serious injury due to road accidents almost everyday.

We constituted a committee recently which recommended having traffic volunteers to assist the traffic police,’’ the commissioner said while inaugurating the traffic outpost. He said 15 volunteers, mostly unemployed, were appointed who would manage one stretch from Sheelanagar to Gajuwaka. They were given training in soft skills, wheellock system and other aspects of traffic for a period of 45 days.

Similarly, other places would also have these volunteers to man the traffic. Joint commissioner of police K. Fakirappa, ADCP traffic K. Srinivasa Rao and other officials were present.
