Vijayawada:The ruling three-party alliance is hopeful of winning all the three MLC seats for which the polling is held in the Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts on Thursday.

Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu had asked ministers, legislators and leaders of Telugu Desam to campaign extensively for the MLC elections. The campaign ended on Tuesday for the three seats.

Naidu concentrated on the MLC polls for the past two months and conducted review meetings with party leaders. He wanted the alliance leaders to focus people’s attention on the government’s developmental activities and implementation of the poll promises.

The YSRC was absent in the election fray. The TD, Jana Sena and BJP leaders ventured into action with full force, creating a poll frenzy across the state.

The EC has announced casual leave for the employees in the election-bound districts to enable employees and teachers to exercise their franchise.

Ten candidates are in the fray in the North Andhra teachers' constituency where polling will be held in 123 polling stations. There are 22,493 voters, of which 13,503 are men and 8,985 women.

Prominent Koredla Vijayagouri is contesting from UTF, Pakalapati Raghuvarma from APTF and Gade Srinivasula Naidu from PRTU. The TD did not contest the poll and is supporting Pakalapati Raghuvarma.

Some 34 candidates are in the fray from the graduate constituency of the joint Godavari districts. The main contest will be between TD candidate Perabathula Rajasekhar and PDF candidate DV Raghavulu. Out of a total of 3,14,984 votes, 1,83,347 are male and 1,31,618 are female and interestingly there are also 19 transgenders. A total of 456 polling stations have been set up.

A total of 416 polling stations have been set up. The authorities took special steps to prevent incidents during the elections.

Among the three MLC seats, the Joint Krishna and Guntur districts MLC election turned out to be a big fight. The contest is between two legendary leaders. Alapati Rajendra Prasad earlier worked as minister and MLA during the TD terms. He has undertaken extensive voter registrations and campaigned door-to-door in the 2019 election. He sacrificed his Tenali assembly seat to Jana Sena where Nadendla Manohar emerged as the winner. He has the support of STU, Noble Teachers' Association, TNUS, APTF, APTA and other organisations. He has been in politics for more than three decades.

KS Lakshmana Rao had won the graduate and teacher MLC elections three times and is available to teachers. He had the support of APTF (1938), pensioners, employment, banks, and labour unions. He had direct contact with voters, he is personally not corrupt, and he has awareness on the unemployment issues, teachers, and the education sector issues.
