Vijayawada:The water resources authorities are reducing levels at the Polavaram project's main dam area by gravity release and lifting of one of the sluice gates.They say the water level at the main dam area reached 24 metres on Monday and that inflows from Godavari also reduced.
After water was released to the downstream areas of the lower cofferdam, the water level had come down to 19 metres on Thursday.
Water level at the upstream cofferdam is recorded at 28 meters while 18.9 meters at the downstream cofferdam.
The water was released to protect the main dam's structure.
