Jagan Alleges ‘Injustice’ at Juvvaladinne Fishing Harbour, Targets State Government

Questioning the current government, YS Jagan asked why the remaining works at Juvvaladinne had not been completed or handed over to fishermen.

Nellore: YSRC president and former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday accused the ruling coalition government of neglecting fishermen’s interests at the Juvvaladinne Fishing Harbour. During his visit to the harbour, the ex-CM interacted with fishermen and said attempts are being made to displace them. “Instead of supporting fishermen, attempts are being made to displace them from Juvvaladinne,” he charged. Referring to a recent incident, Jagan Mohan Reddy claimed that boats seized from Tamil Nadu fishermen and handed over to police have gone missing and no action has been taken. He alleged that the boats disappeared days after minister Nara Lokesh’s visit on March 12 and no arrests have yet been made. The former chief minister alleged that as per call data records there is a link between individuals associated with the boats and persons close to the ruling party leaders. Questioning the delay in launch of operations at Juvvaladinne, Jagan Mohan Reddy said the harbour, with a handling capacity of 41,000 tonnes, remains non-functional, despite being completed over two years ago. “Why has it still not been handed over to fishermen,” he asked. He pointed out that the previous YSRC government had undertaken port-led projects worth ₹26,000 crore, including ports, fishing harbours, and fish landing centres. The Juvvaladinne harbour had been virtually inaugurated on March 12, 2024. Alleging that fishermen’s livelihoods are being undermined, the YSRC president said, “Those who took away the seized boats have the blessings of the Chief Minister’s son.” Jagan Mohan Reddy declared that the private defence company allotted land at the harbour will be relocated when YSRC comes to power. “All fishing harbours, including Juvvaladinne, belong to fishermen. The harbours are fishermen’s rightful assets. No one can take them away,” he underlined. He promised that a corporation for the Pattapu community would be established if his party returns to power. Those present during the former CM’s visit include YSRC leaders Kakani Govardhan Reddy, P. Anilkumar Yadav, Katamreddy Vishnuvardhan Reddy, Ramireddy Pratapkumar Reddy, ZP chairman Anam Arunamma, and former ministers S. Appalaraju and Suresh.
