Kurnool: In an interesting development, five supporters from the YSR Congress were elected as standing committee members of the Kurnool Municipal Corporation. The elections, held on Thursday, resulted in victories for party members M. Vikramasimha Reddy of 40th division (31 votes), A. Kranti Kumar of 12th division (29 votes), P. Jubair Ahmed of 7t division (29 votes), Midde Chittemma of 31st division (28 votes), and SK Yunus Basha of 10th division (27 votes) against the ruling party contestants.
Jakkula Ramanamma, M. Vijaya Kumari, SK Shajahan Parveen, SK Nilofar, and S. Sivamma, backed by the Telugu Desam Party, lost due to insufficient support out of the 250 members. The tenures of the previous committee members K. Padmalatha, G.L.V. Sujatha, Sangala Sudarshan Reddy, A. Lakshmi Reddy, and Nagaruru Srinivasa Rao concluded on July 31. This new committee will serve for one year, with the approval of the standing committee being mandatory for works with budgets ranging from Rs. 10 to 50 lakhs.
