YSRC complains to EC on poll violence, seeks urgent action
The delegation comprised MLAs Kasu Mahesh Reddy, Malladi Vishnu, MLC Lella Appi Reddy and some others.
They submitted a letter to the CEO, seeking immediate and decisive action regarding the incidents of violence on the polling day and thereafter.
It read, “Following the May 13 polling, YSRC has lodged complaints about the Telugu Desam's booth capturing, rigging, and voter intimidation. These grievances call for urgent measures, including re-polling in 60 booths across 16 constituencies, accompanied by police protection. Despite these appeals, no action has been taken.”
The YSRC requested an examination of live webcasting footage from the polling booths and a re-poll. “Our objective is to prompt re-polling based on evidence captured in the footage,” the delegation said.
They also submitted a separate petition calling for registration of cases and legal action against individuals involved in illegal activities.
Gurazala MLA Kasu Mahesh Reddy stated that if the Election Commission fails to adequately address the Telugu Desam's election-related violence, “we are prepared to approach the high court and the Supreme Court.
He accused TD chief Chandrababu Naidu of orchestrating chaos on the polling day, targeting SC, ST, BC and minority communities. “Complaints regarding TD violence have been consistently lodged with the Election Commission since the polling day. The Telugu Desam engaged in booth rigging,” he said and demanded re-polling in over 60 polling stations.
YSRC MLA Malladi Vishnu revealed that they had previously notified the Election Commission about problematic polling centres, urging security measures to safeguard voter safety in those areas. "However, under the influence of BJP state president Purandheswari, the Election Commission was pressured into changing officers without conducting comprehensive investigations, he said.
“This decision contributed to the eruption of violence in various parts of the state," MLA Vishnu said.
