YSRC Government Permitted Uranium Survey: Ramanaidu

Kurnool: District In-Charge and Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu has promised the people of Devanakonda mandal that the state government will not allow uranium mining in the district as long as there is no public consent.

He said the previous government permitted a survey in this respect in 2022. “There will be no harassment or unwarranted arrests in this connection.”

Presiding over the District Development Committee meeting at the Collectorate on Monday, the minister said the welfare of the people would be the government’s top priority.

The meeting discussed issues related to agriculture, irrigation and drinking water.

Highlighting the developmental needs of Kurnool, Ramanaidu noted that the "gateway to Rayalaseema" remained underdeveloped, with 20 percent of its 8 lakh acres still un-irrigated.

For Rayalaseema, he promised an allocation of Rs.2,800 crore for the Handri Neeva project next year, with plans to increase its water flow from 1,800 to 3,850 cusecs to benefit Kurnool, Anantapur, Sathya Sai, Hindupuram and Chittoor districts. The government, he said, is trying to attract industrial investment to the region and more employment opportunities.

On housing, Ramanaidu asked officials to compile reports on housing development from 2014 to 2016 and process the pending payments for houses built in 2016–2019. Minister TG Bharath, MP Nagaraju and other legislators and officials attended the meeting.
