Be Wary of Dhar Gang, Police Caution People from the Outskirts

Hyderabad: Police have cautioned the people to stay vigilant following reports of the ‘Dhar gang’ of Madhya Pradesh, known for their cruelty, being active on the city outskirts.

The issue came to light when a resident of Kuntluru, Hayathnagar, lodged a complaint with the police on Tuesday. The family had called the police immediately, thwarting the gang’s robbery bid.

The Dhar gang consists of more than five members, who are ruthless. Their operations are well coordinated and meticulously planned, said Rachakonda DCP (crimes) V. Aravind Babu.

They target houses in the suburbs. If they are confronted, they resort to violence. “Sometimes it is challenging to identify the gang members as the comfortably blend in with the locals, " Aravind Babu said.

The gang receives support from local gold shops where they exchange gold, which complicates police efforts to arrest them. This alleged support provides them with resources and information and makes their operations more efficient, said a reliable source.

The gang members stay in the outskirts for a week or thereabouts and return to their native place, where they hand over the stolen property and return, he said.

Residents have been urged to look out for suspicious activities, unfamiliar vehicles that are moving around late at night. Unusual behaviour, such as people loitering around homes or making frequent rounds in neighborhoods, should also be reported, the police said.

Meanwhile, the March 22 incident involving the chaddi gang has left residents in Miyapur and Nizampet on the edge as the perpetrators remain elusive. The thieves left with `7.8 lakh from a private school and the police remain clueless about the burglars or their whereabouts.
