BRS to kick off its 10 yrs of statehood fete today

Hyderabad: The Gun Park, where the Telangana Martyr’s Memorial is located opposite the Assembly, and the environs of the Secretariat, are all set to be the destinations on Sunday as the state, and the two principal parties, Congress and the BRS, are set to mark the decadal celebrations of formation of Telangana on June 2.

While the government has chalked out an elaborate series of events on June 2 as part of the official celebrations with events at the Martyrs’ Memorial, the Parade Ground in Secunderabad, and on Tank Bund, culminating with a huge show of fireworks, the BRS, which prides itself as the achiever of statehood, will kick off its round of celebrations a day ahead on June 1.

It is planning a huge gathering at the Matyrs’ Memorial at Gun Park where party president and former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao will offer tribute. The event in the evening, will culminate with a march and a candlelight rally from Gun Park to the Amara Jyoti memorial, opposite the Secretariat, and built by the previous Rao government.

Though the state government has extended an invitation from Chief Minister A, Revanth Reddy to Rao to attend the official programmes, the BRS has not yet made it clear if he would be attending the official ceremonies. The BRS is organising its own events at Telangana Bhavan on the day with Rao leading the celebrations. The party is planning for a photograph exhibition of the Telangana movement at the venue, along with other events.

This will be followed by party gatherings at BRS offices in all the districts on June 3, the last day of the three-day State Formation Day events planned by the party.
