Communal Issue Flares Up in Medak

Hyderabad: A procession in protest against cattle transportation flared up communal issues and led to stabbing a person in Medak town. As a result, the Medak police registered three different cases and arrested 24 persons belonging to different groups in Medak and shifted them to judicial remand.

Following the incident, Inspector General of Police (IGP) A.V. Ranganath visited Medak and deployed heavy forces in view of a bandh call given by the BJP on Sunday. The bandh went off peacefully. The Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay spoke to police officials and inquired about the incidents.

According to police, BJYM members detained a vehicle, which was allegedly transporting cattle on Saturday. Based on inputs, police swung into action and seized all cattle and shifted them to a temporary cow shelter.

However, the BJYM members went to Narsikheed alleging that a section of people indulged in slaughtering cattle. The locals at Narsikheed assaulted the BJYM members accusing them of trespassing into their private premises and for making false statements. Later, the BJYM took out a procession amidst police security in protest against cattle transportation. During the procession, a BJYM member was stabbed by an unknown person, leading to a clash between the two groups on Saturday night.

In protest, the BJP called for a bandh in Medak on Sunday. As a preemptive action, the IGP visited Medak and deployed heavy security at all nooks and corners.

After the bandh went off peacefully, Ranganath told media persons that they registered three different cases in connection with the clashes and innocents were influenced by the unknown in flaring up communal issues.

“We have taken action against miscreants irrespective of political parties. We will take stern action against those who influenced innocent people in the sensitive cases. The police forces have been deployed to prevent untoward incidents in Medak," the IGP said.

During his telephonic conversation with the police, the Union minister asked the police to take action against whoever acts to create unrest in the society. The minister said the police should not only stand for the victims but also take action against the wrongdoers.

“Police should not register illegal cases against the victims and not take any action to cause trouble to the innocent. The situation will improve based on the actions taken by the police in the Medak incident.”

Meanwhile, the Cyberabad police detained BJP MLA T Raja Singh at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) after the BJP MLA tried to proceed to Medak minutes after arriving at the airport. Police shifted Raja Singh to his residence.
