Employees Seek Relocation of Judicial Institutions to Amaravati

Kurnool: As the Telugu Desam is leading the next government, local employees from judicial institutions in Rayalaseema have started seeking a shift of these offices to Amaravati. Politicians are, however, not keen on this.

The employees are placing such requests through their heads of department to the government.

The YSRC government had announced the three-capital strategy, promising to make Kurnool the judicial capital. It allocated lands near Jagannathagattu in the city limits for the second national law university that also hosts institutions such as the AP Lokayukta, the AP State Human Rights Commission, AP Wakf Tribunal, state Consumers Disputes and Redressal Commission, the AP Legal Metrology Commission, the AP Labour Commission, the AP VAT Appellate Tribunal offices etc.

A site has also been earmarked for the high court wing in the city limits.

However, a majority of the staff from these are not from Rayalaseema region. With the TD-led alliance winning the polls, the employees are hoping that the Telugu Desam government will shift them or these offices back to the Amaravati region.

In fact, Chandrababu Naidu as Telugu Desam chief had assured the local population during his election campaign that the alliance would back the plans of setting up a high court bench in the city.

Despite their requests by local employees, politicos are aiming to retain these institutions in the city, and they would not support such plans to shift these institutions to the capital region. Further, a permanent building has been constructed in the city for the AP Electricity Regulatory Commission and recently office activity has also started.

Senior advocate and social activist D Nagendra said the state government has to first withdraw the three-capital formation case in the supreme court and take measures for setting up a high court bench in Kurnool. He also requested the state government to retain the judicial offices in Kurnool.
