Erstwhile Adilabad Records 60 Dengue Cases in Last 15 Days

Adilabad: In the last 15 days, 60 cases of dengue have been reported in erstwhile Adilabad district, following a change in weather conditions, poor sanitation and a general laxity in the administration's discharge of duties.

Not just dengue but various kinds of viral fevers and even cases of typhoid have been detected.

Government hostels are rampant with viral fevers.

A girl student, Jhade Puja, 17, of Gundaipet village died in Kouthala mandal two days ago. A student of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Puja was suffering from viral fever. Negligence on part of the local medical professionals was alleged in her death.

Students, along with their parents or hostel staffers, are seen lined up outside local public health centres in the agency areas of Kumuram Bheem Asifabad and Adilabad districts. Most students exhibit signs of viral fever -- severe cough, vomiting and looses motion.

Many serious cases have come up in the Tribal Ashram schools as well.

Fogging and cleaning of drainages have not been done in many villages.

In some hostels, staffers are asking the students' parents to pick up their children to avoid any blame in case of a fatality.

The project officer of Integrated Tribal Development Agency, Utnoor, Khushbhu Gupta inspected the Tribal Ashram schools in Indravelli mandal and in Utnoor mandal recently. That is when it came to light that some students were suffering from typhoid.

Poor sanitation, mosquito menace and drinking water contamination (no chlorination of wells) has made the situation dire in Utnoor, Jainoor and Sirpur (U) mandals. .
