Hyderabad: On the occasion of Independence Day, city police commissioner Kothakota Sreenivasa Reddy and principal secretary (education) Burra Venkatesham went on an inspection of spy cameras at a shopping mall here on Thursday.
The unique inspection initiative that will be in vogue across the city is a step towards making the city much safer for women and children, especially their movements at public places.
The city police, in collaboration with the department of education and NSS students, will check for hidden cameras in different shopping malls.
The teams, comprising female professional experts, will check for cameras in changing rooms, wash rooms and toilets. A second check is also likely in order to be doubly sure that there are no spy cameras in the vulnerable spots. These checks will be randomly conducted in big and small shopping areas.
“The program is to reaffirm our commitment to creating a safe for all citizens, especially women”, the top cop said.
Venkatesham highlighted the role of educational institutions in spreading awareness about such critical issues.
The event was further enlivened by a flash mob and dance performances that creatively engaged the audience, driving home the message of vigilance and safety.
NSS volunteers, officials from the education department, SHE teams, NGOs, spy camera technical teams and crime department were present on the occasion.
