3 of a family allegedly commit suicide in Mysuru

BENGALURU: Three persons including twins alleged to a committee suicide over growing pressure to return loans borrowed by them from money lenders in Mysuru which came to light on Tuesday. Preliminary investigation by the police reportedly attributed the cause of deaths to online betting addiction by the deceased persons.

While a body was recovered by the police in Hanchya village about 10-km from Mysuru city, two bodies were found hanging from a staircase of a water tank in Vijayanagar in Mysuru city.

The deceased have been identified by the police as Joshy Anthony, Joby Anthony and his wife Swathi alias Sharmila. All were residents of Yaraganahalli in Mysuru city. The body of Joshy was recovered from Hanchya village while the bodies of Joby and Swathi were discovered in Vijayanagar playground.

A recorded video message by Joshy to his sister Mary Sherlin, led a separate life, alleged Joby and his wife Swathi availed huge loans from money lenders through his sister Mary Sherlin and cheated her. In the video, Joshy pointed fingers at Joby and his wife Swathi for him to take the extreme step to end his life.

It is alleged that Joshy was under pressure from money lenders to return the loans and decided to end his life. Soon, after the recorded video of Joshy came to the knowledge of Joby and his wife Swathi, the couple is said to have taken the drastic step to end their lives.
