9 Prison Officials Suspended Over VIP Treatment to Murder Accused Actor Darshan Tugudeep
BENGALURU: While investigation is underway in connection to the serving of tea and cigarette to murder accused actor Darshan Tugudeep lodged in Parappana Agrahara Prison of Bengaluru, Minister for Home Dr G. Parameshwar on Monday said taking note of lapses Chief Superintendent of Prison and Superintendent of Prison were among 9 officials attached to Parappana Agrahara Prison have been placed under suspension.
Prior to the suspension orders against erring persons, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directed the Director General of Police to place erring officials under suspension and also to submit a detailed report in this regard.
“Officials of integrity will replace the suspended ones,” assured the Home Minister after inspection of Parappana Agrahara Prison and stated to initiate action to prevent such incidents from happening in future in Prisons. Meanwhile, he said, 3 First Information Reports have been registered in connection with VIP treatment accorded inside the Prison to murder accused actor Darshan.
On Sunday, a photograph of Darshan sipping on a beverage with a mug in right hand and a cigarette in his left hand went viral. In the photograph Darshan was seen chatting in the Garden of the Prison and was provided a chair, a table to have a chat with his friends-Wilson Garden Naga, his Manager Nagaraj and another friend Lakshman.
Parameshwar disclosed the names of the suspended officials which include Chief Superintendent of Prison Sheshamurthy, Superintendent of Prison Mallikarjun Swamy, Jailors-Sharana Basava Ameengada and Raghu S. Khandelwad, Assistant Jailors-L.S. Thippeswamy and Srikanth Talwar, head warders-Venkatappa Purke and Sampath Kumar Doddapatti and warder Basavaappa Telli.
“A report has been sought from DG Prisons and based on the report and suitable action will be initiated against erring persons,” assured the Home Minister in a chat with reporters and in reply to a query on shifting of actor from Parapanna Agrahara, Parameshwar said to initiate steps after discussions with officials concerned.
