Advanced Electric Loco Maintenance Facilities Inaugurated in Hubballi
Hubballi: Aravind Srivastava, General Manager of South Western Railway, inaugurated state-of-the-art infrastructural facilities dedicated to the maintenance of electric locomotives at the Diesel Shed in Hubballi.
In a significant development towards the electrification of the South Western Railway, Srivastava highlighted that these new facilities mark a crucial milestone. Until now, the Hubballi Division lacked an Electric Loco Shed, making this Rs. 25.63 crore project a vital addition to the region's railway infrastructure.
Previously, the Diesel Shed's capabilities were insufficient for the maintenance of electric locomotives. The newly established facilities can now accommodate and repair up to 50 electric locomotives, ensuring safe and reliable train operations, according to railway officials.
The enhanced maintenance operations will include Turn Overhauling (TOH) and Intermediate Overhauling (IOH). These scheduled activities require specialized infrastructural setups, including Heavy Lifting Bays, Medium Lifting Bays equipped with a 25-tonne EOT crane, inspection sheds, service buildings, and other necessary plants and machinery.
To commemorate the occasion, Srivastava flagged off a locomotive in the presence of key officials, including Principal Chief Electrical Engineer Ishaq Khan, Divisional Railway Manager Harsh Khare, and Chief Project Manager of Gati Shakti Unit, Sanjay Kumar.
