Anwar Manippady taken U-turn due to political pressure: DK Shivakumar
Belagavi: Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC president DK Shivakumar today said that former Chairman of the State Minorities Commission, Anwar Manippady, had taken a U-turn due to political pressure.
Speaking to the media at the Suvarna Soudha premises, Shivakumar addressed questions about Manippady’s recent change in stance.
When asked about Manippady retracting his earlier statements, Shivakumar said, “I have seen videos of his statements circulating in the media and on social platforms. Many of his claims have come directly from his own mouth. He had mentioned that he wrote to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister about this issue. The Chief Minister has also quoted his statements in a tweet, and these records cannot simply disappear. Before we release any document, let him release it himself.”
On why there is confusion surrounding the issue, Shivakumar said, “The confusion is being created by you (the media). You have published his statements. You have reported what Anwar said and the CM has also quoted his statement in a tweet. To cover up the issue, he (Manippady) has been made to issue contradictory statements. What he originally said is the truth. If needed, you can verify his voice yourself.”
Asked about CM’s statement that the investigation must be handed over to the CBI, he said, “All facts are before us. Let the CBI write to the state government seeking permission to investigate, we will think about it then. We will not hand this over to the CBI. The BJP knows this and hence are seeking CBI inquiry.
Responding to Anwar Manippady’s claim that Congress leaders had made him an offer, Shivakumar said, “He should have mentioned this earlier. Why didn’t he name those who made the offer at that time? What is the use of saying it now? What you say when you are in a position of authority is what truly matters.”
