Four Persons From Belagavi Die in Kumbh Mela

Belagavi: Four devotees from Belagavi, who had gone to participate in the Maha Kumbh Mela, tragically lost their lives in a stampede.

Initial reports indicated that some devotees from Belagavi were seriously injured and others' whereabouts were unknown. However, by the evening, it was confirmed that four individuals from Belagavi district had died in the incident.

The victims have been identified as Megha Deepak Hattarwath (24), her mother Jyothi Deepak Hattarwath (44) of Vadagavi, Arun Koparde (61) of Shettihalli, and Mahadevi (48) of Shivaji Nagar.

Speaking to reporters, Jyothi's husband shared that he had spoken to his wife and daughter on Tuesday night around 10 pm.

"They left on January 26th in the afternoon with a group. Last night, I spoke to them. Since this morning, I tried calling them but couldn’t reach them. Finally, in the evening, a person from Belagavi who was in the group confirmed that they were no more," he said.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka government has appointed nodal officers for the repatriation of the mortal remains of the four Belagavi residents. Belagavi district Additional SP Shruthi NS and Special Deputy Commissioner for R&R Project Harsha Shetty have been designated as nodal officers. They have been instructed to proceed to Prayagraj immediately and coordinate with the Uttar Pradesh government for the repatriation process.
