BJP MLA attributes egg attack on him to Dy CM
BENGALURU: Unidentified persons hurled an egg at Bharatiya Janata Party MLA and former minister Munirathna in Bengaluru city on Wednesday and the egg hurled at the MLA hit him on his head. Munirathna represents Rajarajeshwari Nagar Assembly seat in Bengaluru and he is out on bail on rape charge and caste abuse.
The egg attack on BJP MLA took place near Laggere and Lakshmi Devi Nagar in Bengaluru city after Munirathna left to board his vehicle after a function to mark birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee.
Minister for Home Dr G Parameshwar stated three persons have been detained in connection with the attack on Munirathna and the motive for the attack is yet to be ascertained. Police investigations are underway.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police Saidulu Adavath told reporters the BJP MLA was hit by an egg after he preferred to take a walk for about 50-meters from the venue to board a vehicle parked on the main road. Immediately, police secured the MLA and he was taken to a hospital.
Soon, after the egg on him, Munirathna alleged the behind the scene role of Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and his brother and former Lok Sabha member D.K. Suresh, Congress leader Kusuma and her father Hanumantharappa for the attack on him. Before the attack with an egg on him near Laggere, Munirathna alleged egg attack on him near Goraguntepalya of Bengaluru city.
Munirathna stated he feared for his life and had definite information on possible attack on him. The reason he gave for attacking him is to exert pressure on him to resign as MLA so that the road for the election of Kusuma Hanumantharayappa from RR Nagar could be a smooth affair.
It may be recalled here, Kusuma, a close confidante of D.K. Shivakumar and D.K. Suresh, was defeated by Munirathna in the 2019 by-poll and again in May 2023 Assembly election.
After the attack on him, Muniratha claimed two (unidentified) persons met him in the Court premises in the first week of November this year and asked him to tender resignation as MLA before they issued a threat to him stating that D.K. Shivakumar and D.K. Suresh would get him murdered.
The BJP MLA claimed two unidentified persons came in the guise of advocate. Acting on the threat, Munirathna said he dashed off letters to the President, Prime Minister, Union Home Minister among others fearing his life.
Adding, he said, he even met Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot that he feared for his life and sought armed men for his personal security which is yet to be conceded by the State Government.
