CM Siddaramaiah Calls for Grand Mysuru Dasara Festivities, Ensures Adequate Funding
BENGALURU: Instead of customary programmes and events during the 10-day Mysuru Dasara festival, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday asked officials concerned to upgrade the programmes and events to draw more visitors while assuring adequate fund release for the festivities to be held in October.
“The State Government released Rs 30 crore towards the conduct of Dasara festivities the previous year and this year it has been decided to hold the festivities on a grandeur, more attractive and meaningful since the State has received copious rains, " he said at the high-level committee meeting on Dasara festivities held in Bengaluru.
The illumination of Mysuru city, being the major crowd-puller, during the festivities will be held for 21-days, he said and wanted the officials concerned to make arrangements for the success of the festivities which will start on October 3 from Chamundi Hills by offering prayers to Goddess Chamundeshwari, the presiding deity of Mysuru.
The high-level meeting attended by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Ministers-H.C. Mahadevappa, K.J. George, H.K. Patil, K. Venkatesh among others entrusted to the Chief Minister the task of choosing a diginatory to inaugurate the Dasara festivities this year.
Meanwhile, forest officials in Mysuru stated as many as 14 tamed elephants will participate in Mysuru Dasara and also in the jumbo savari (elephant procession from Mysore Palace premises to Bannimantap of about 6-km) on the finale of the Dasara festivities.
The first of 9 tamed elephants will gather at Veeranahosahalli, the entrance of Nagarahole National Park in Hunsur taluk of Mysuru district to leave for Mysuru city. The first batch of elephants will leave for Mysuru city at a function “Gajapayana” (elephant march) on August 21. The second batch of elephants will arrive in Mysuru city later on.
Tamed elephants-Abhimanyu, Varalakshmi, Dhananjaya, Gopi, Bhima, Lakshmi, Kanjan, Rohit and Ekalavya will arrive in Mysuru city in the first batch.
