CM Siddaramaiah Unveils Rs 327 Cr Cardiac Institute in Kalaburagi
KALABURGI: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized the government's commitment to eradicating regional disparities across Karnataka, irrespective of areas such as Kalyana Karnataka, Mumbai Karnataka, Coastal Karnataka, or Mysuru regions.
Speaking at the inauguration of the new building of the 371-bed Kalaburagi branch of Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, constructed at a cost of Rs 327.17 crore, the Chief Minister assured that the state is dedicated to achieving comprehensive development.
“The 2002 report by Dr. D.M. Nanjundappa identified 39 of the most backward taluks from the Kalaburagi and Belagavi divisions out of 175 taluks in the state. Despite allocating Rs 35,000 crore for their development, expected progress has not been achieved. To address this, our government has formed a high-level committee chaired by economist Prof. Govindaraju to devise new programs based on their recommendations,” he said.
He directed KKRDB Chairman Dr. Ajay Singh to prioritize education and healthcare in the Kalyana Karnataka region. He also announced plans to improve infrastructure at Gulbarga University, fill vacant posts, and establish new courses to enhance educational opportunities.
Referring to Article 371(J), the CM said that over 80,000 individuals have gained employment, and thousands of students have benefited from higher education. He lauded the special provisions enacted under his government in 2013 to implement the legislation and provide reserved opportunities for the region’s residents.
“The Sharanas brought social revolution. Our government declared Basavanna as cultural leader. Basavanna, Buddha, Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi believed in equality. We follow their principals,” he added.
