CM Siddaramaiah urged to deploy dredger for missing persons search in Gangavali river

Karwar: A delegation of elected representatives from Kerala, led by Kozhikode MP MK Raghavan, has appealed to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to deploy a dredger in the Gangavali River to aid in the search for individuals still missing following the Shiruru landslide incident.

The landslide, which struck Shiruru in Ankola Taluk of Uttara Kannada district on July 16, resulted in the disappearance of 11 people. While eight bodies have been recovered, three individuals—Arjun, a truck driver from Kerala, and Jaganathan and Lokesh from Karnataka—remain unaccounted for. It is feared that they may be buried under debris in the Gangavali River.

During a meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday, the delegation submitted a formal memorandum requesting the deployment of a dredger for the search operation. The memorandum, signed by Raghavan and Manjeswaram MLA AKM Ashraf, acknowledged the diligent efforts of the government, district administration, and police in coordinating rescue and relief operations with various state and central agencies.

"Despite our best efforts, the missing persons have not yet been located. However, we believe that there is still a possibility of finding them with the assistance of a dredger. Therefore, we respectfully seek your permission to deploy a dredger in the Gangavali River for this purpose," the memorandum stated.

The representatives expressed their hope that the deployment of a dredger would enhance the ongoing search operations and potentially lead to the recovery of the missing individuals.CM Siddaramaiah to Deploy Dredger for Missing Persons Search in Gangavali River
