Dakshina Kannada MP Meets Ashwini Vaishnaw on Coastal Rail Issues

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta, along with fellow parliamentarians, met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to discuss pressing concerns related to railway infrastructure in the coastal Karnataka region.

Chowta was joined by Bengaluru Rural MP Dr. C.N. Manjunath, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, and Uttara Kannada MP Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri. During the meeting, they emphasized the need to improve Mangaluru-Bengaluru rail connectivity and resolve persistent issues along the Shiradi Ghat section.

The delegation submitted a memorandum urging the minister to expedite key projects, including the doubling of tracks on the Hassan-Mangaluru line and the integration of Konkan Railway with Indian Railways. They stressed that these upgrades are vital for bolstering connectivity between coastal Karnataka and Bengaluru.

The memorandum also called for improved passenger amenities, particularly on the Subramanya-Mangaluru passenger route, to enhance travel experiences.

Posting about the meeting on X (formerly Twitter), MP Chowta sought support from the Karnataka government, stating, “I request our Karnataka govt led by CM Siddaramaiah to kindly provide the necessary state support for the swift redressal of various concerns pertaining to both Konkan Railways as well as HMRDC to ease movement of both people and cargo in this important stretch between Mangalore and Bangalore.”

The MPs expressed optimism that collaborative efforts between the Centre and the state would address longstanding rail infrastructure challenges in the region.
