DK Shivakumar Calls for Coastal Karnataka Tourism Policy

Karwar: Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC President DK Shivakumar has proposed the need for a separate tourism policy for Coastal Karnataka, emphasizing the region's untapped natural potential.

On a two-day visit to the coastal districts of Udupi and Uttara Kannada, Shivakumar toured temples on Thursday and went scuba diving at Netrani Island near Murudeshwar on Friday, accompanied by Fisheries Minister Mankal Vaidya and MLA Bhimanna Naik.

Speaking to reporters at the helipad before flying to Bengaluru, Shivakumar highlighted the region’s natural assets.

“The beaches here are as beautiful as those in Goa. The 300-km coastline of Karnataka holds immense potential, which has not been fully explored. Investment here will create employment opportunities and promote economic growth,” he said.

“I believe in assessing things firsthand. “I believe in seeing things with my own eyes rather than hearing about them. That is why I have come here to assess what can be done. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and I will discuss implementing a separate tourism policy for the coastal region with the Tourism Minister HK Patil,” he assured.

Shivakumar expressed confidence in the region’s ability to meet international standards and attract tourists.
