A Bengaluru businessman allegedly lost 5 lakhs rupees to a ‘wedding invitation’ forwarded to him on WhatsApp, which turned out to be a hoax. Local reports indicate that multiple residents in Bengaluru have received the same invitation via WhatsApp, attached with a malicious APK file that can steal sensitive data from smartphones.
"We're happy to invite you to our wedding. Kindly download the attached invitation for complete details of the ceremony. Your presence and blessings will make our special day truly memorable," with a heart emoji at the end.
"We look forward to celebrating this beautiful moment with you," the message further read, followed by another bouquet and sparkle emoticon.
An APK (Android Package Kit) file is the standard file format used by Android for distributing and installing apps, containing all necessary code, assets, and resources for an application to function.
