Heavy rains cause severe waterlogging in Vijayapura, emergency measures taken

Vijayapura: Heavy rainfall on Monday night led to severe waterlogging across several areas of Vijayapura, including Bagwan Colony, Prem Nagar, KC Nagar, Alakunte Nagar, and Gachinakatte Colony.

Responding swiftly, Deputy Commissioner T. Bhoobalan visited the affected areas and instructed the City Corporation to deploy emergency relief teams. He stressed the need for immediate silt removal from roads and drains to facilitate the smooth flow of water.

City Corporation officials, led by Commissioner Vijaykumar Mekkalaki, began draining water from the worst-hit zones. Mekkalaki assured the public that all necessary steps were being taken to address complaints and curb flooding.

According to Bhoobalan, Tikota Taluk received 76 mm of rainfall, while Vijayapura Taluk recorded 40 mm. District-in-charge Minister M.B. Patil is scheduled to visit the rain-affected areas on September 25 to assess the damage. A progress review meeting is also set to take place at the Zilla Panchayat office to discuss further precautionary measures.
