Helicopter Rides Take Flight at Karavali Utsav in Mangaluru
Mangaluru: The aerial experience rides on a helicopter held as part of the ongoing Karavali Utsav is the new attraction in Mangaluru.
From the helicopter, Mangaluru unveils itself as a mesmerizing blend of natural and urban beauty. During the ride, passengers can marvel at the coastline, dotted with colorful fishing boats bobbing in the water. The cityscape showcases a mix of concrete buildings, winding railway tracks, and bustling construction sites, with pockets of greenery adding to its charm. The movement of vehicles on busy roads appears almost rhythmic, reflecting the vibrant life of the city.
At the Maryhill helipad, the starting point, a large crowd gathered to witness the helicopter flights. Children excitedly pointed skyward, their joy infectious as they waited to catch a glimpse of the soaring helicopter.
The city witnessed an exhilarating start to the helicopter rides on Saturday as Padma Shri awardees Harekala Hajabba and Amai Mahalinga Naik inaugurated the much-anticipated attraction. The duo, celebrated for their remarkable contributions to society, flagged off the service by taking the inaugural flight along with Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan, City Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal, Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr. Anand K, Superintendent of Police Yatish, and Deputy Conservator of Forests Anthony S Mariappa.
Speaking after enjoying the ride Hajabba and Mahalinga Naik lauded the initiative and expressed hope that it would attract more visitors, enhancing the festivity’s charm.
The aerial experience rides, operated by Thumby Aviation Pvt. Ltd., promise a unique perspective of Mangaluru’s picturesque landscape. Each sortie accommodates six passengers, with flight durations ranging from six to seven minutes. The rides are available in two slots daily: 9 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 5 pm, according to a press statement.
Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan highlighted the potential of the helicopter rides to boost tourism. “This initiative is part of our efforts to make Karavali Utsav more attractive. Passengers can enjoy an aerial view of the city and its coastline, offering a truly memorable experience,” he said.
The DC also shared ambitious plans for heli-tourism, stating, “If the response is favorable, this service can be expanded to connect Mangaluru with tourist destinations in nearby districts like Udupi and Chikkamagaluru, as well as other locations within our district.”
