Gag MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, demands Yediyurappa's Supporters
Bengaluru: Supporters of former Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party Central Parliamentary Board member BS Yediyurappa met him at his residence in Bengaluru on Sunday demanding Yediyurappa to initiate steps to gag party MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal who has been critical over the party's leadership in Karnataka.
In the meantime, State BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra stated he met national leaders to discuss the prevailing political scenario in Karnataka but did not press for disciplinary action against Yatnal for his outbursts at him and his father Yediyurappa on numerous occasions.
However, former BJP Lok Sabha member Pratap Simha termed Basanagouda Patil Yatnal as an "asset" to BJP and most popular leader of the party in the State.
Simha stated Yatnal has a huge fan following across the State and the party will benefit from him along with other leaders.
It may be recalled here Basanagouda Patil Yatnal representing Vijayapura Assembly seat attributed BJP’s defeat in recent Assembly by-poll to Shiggaon, Channapatna and Sandur to the leadership of Yediyurappa and Vijayendra. Besides, Yatnal and his supporters have launched a parallel protest against the Wakf Board.
A Yeddyurappa loyalist and former minister M.P. Renukacharya told reporters about 50 leaders including former ministers and MLAs met Yediyurappa voluntarily to express their support to him and urged Yediyurappa to initiate steps to gag Yatnal.
In reply to the demand to gag Yatnal, Renukacharya said Yediyurappa asked the leaders to wait for about 10-days for things to settle down.
Another Yediyurappa loyalist and former minister Hartal Halappa said if Yatnal continued his tirade against the party leader then the leadership asked Yediyurappa to initiate steps to put brakes on Yatnal. Yediyurappa asked party leaders to wait for about 10-days.
Ballari former MLA Gali Somashekar Reddy said party workers in Mysuru demanded stern action against Yatnal and national party leaders will look into the issue of initiating action against Yatnal.
