Karnataka Approves Konkan Railway Merger with Indian Railways
Belagavi: The state government has expressed its full consent for the merger of the Konkan Railway with Indian Railways and has initiated correspondence in this regard.
Energy Minister KJ George said this while responding on behalf of the Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development during the ongoing Winter Session in Belagavi.
“The Konkan Railway should have been merged with Indian Railways earlier. However, due to operational losses, there has been no significant development at railway stations in this region. Correspondence regarding the adjustment of Karnataka’s Rs 270 crore equity contribution is underway. Once merged with Indian Railways, new trains will be introduced, and existing railway stations will see improvements,” George said while addressing a call attention motion raised by MLAs Kiran Kumar Kodgi and V Sunil Kumar in the Assembly on Thursday.
Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge added that the state government has already written to the Konkan Railway regarding the merger and is awaiting their response.
