Karnataka: BJP announces statewide protests, demands CM’s resignation

Udupi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has declared statewide protests across all district centers in Karnataka on August 22, condemning the Congress for allegedly insulting the state governor and demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah amid recent controversies.

BJP State General Secretary and Karkala MLA V Sunil Kumar announced that the demonstrations will see participation from key BJP figures, including state core committee members, local MPs, MLAs, former ministers, legislators, district presidents, and other office bearers.

Kumar accused the Congress of showing disrespect toward the governor during recent protests, citing incidents where the governor's portrait was allegedly burned in some areas. He also highlighted objectionable statements made by ministers Zameer Ahmed, Krishna Byre Gowda, and MLC Ivan D'Souza against the governor. Additionally, in Belthangady, Congress leader Rakshit Shivaram allegedly made inappropriate remarks against the Prime Minister.

Sunil Kumar called on the police to file suo moto cases against Congress leaders who have made inflammatory statements inciting violence. The BJP’s protests aim to pressure the government in light of these developments.
