Karnataka: Enthusiastic Voter Turnout Marks By-Polls in Shiggaon and Sandur
Mangaluru: The by-polls in Karnataka’s Shiggaon and Sandur constituencies commenced on Wednesday with a strong voter turnout, as citizens arrived at polling stations early to cast their ballots. By 9 a.m., voter turnout had already reached 10.08 percent in Shiggaon (Haveri district) and 10.11 percent in Sandur.
Long lines were observed across urban and rural areas, reflecting high voter engagement. Special "pink booths" established for women saw significant participation, with many women taking photos at designated selfie points to mark the occasion.
In Shiggaon, BJP candidate Bharat Bommai and his father, former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, voted at Government Model Kannada Boys' School No. 1 after offering prayers at Ashok Nagar’s Maruti Temple and Hubballi’s Parshva Padmalaya Dham Jain Temple.
Shiggaon features a close contest between BJP's Bharat Bommai and Congress’s Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan, while Sandur sees an intense battle between BJP's Bangaru Hanumatha and Congress’s Annapoorna Tukaram. Voting continues amid high enthusiasm from the electorate.
