Karnataka government grants permission for BJP's padayatra
Bengaluru: President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Thursday welcomed the weeklong padayatra of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Bengaluru to Mysuru city starting Saturday.
Along with its ally Janata Dal Secular (JDS), BJP is taking out a padayatra seeking the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over alleged irregularities in plot distribution by Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA), fraudulent transactions in Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation.
In the meantime, he said, the Congress party will also hold public meetings at several locations from Bengaluru to Mysuru city posing questions to BJP leaders on the alleged scams and corruption during their rule over the State and step-motherly treatment to Karnataka in the Union budget-2024.
“We have no objection to the padayatra,” asserted the Deputy Chief Minister at a press conference and stated padayatra will not be permitted in Bengaluru city limits as per the order of Supreme Court and High Court and permission will be given to hold padayatra in other places.
“Let them take-up their issue,” he said and stated during the course of the BJP-Janata Dal Secular (JDS) padayatra covering a distance of 140-km, the Congress party leaders including Ministers will hold public meetings at convenient places to pose questions to BJP asking them to explain the purpose of holding padayatra. The Congress leaders will expose scams and alleged corruption during the rule of BJP in Karnataka and also JDS.
Shivakumar said Congress leaders will hold public meetings in Bidadi on Friday at 11 am followed by another meeting in Ramnagar on August 3, then in Channapatna on August 4, in Maddur on August 5, in Mandya on August 6 and in Mysuru city on August 9.
“Let BJP leaders answer questions posed to them by the Congress leaders,” he said while "We will also make the people of State know about the alleged scams and corruption during BJP's tenure."
