Karnataka Govt Unveils Campaign to Clear Bagair Hukum Backlog
Karwar: Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has announced a comprehensive initiative to address the backlog of Bagair Hukum applications across Karnataka, with plans to process them in a campaign-style approach over the next six months.
“For the first time, we are introducing an entirely online approval process for Bagair Hukum applications, starting from Sirsi. All eligible applicants will receive the necessary documentation,” Gowda said during a distribution event in Sirsi where settlement certificates, possession certificates, revenue records, and land title documents were handed over to beneficiaries.
As part of the reforms, settlements on government and private lands, including tandas and hamlets, will be converted into revenue villages. Gowda highlighted that 3,800 tandas and hamlets, housing 1.5 lakh families, will be granted permanent land titles.
In Uttara Kannada, Gowda revealed that land titles would be issued to 630 farmers under Form 57 within the next month. The district’s 16 undocumented settlements, home to hundreds of families, will also see action. Eight settlements in Mundgod and Haliyal taluks each will be declared revenue villages, with 50 families already receiving land titles. Gowda assured that titles for 1,125 families would be issued this week, while the remaining 300 families could obtain their titles after paying a nominal fee.
The minister also addressed the backlog of Forest Rights Act (FRA) applications, directing officials to ensure Forest Rights Committees function seamlessly, even without Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat members. He emphasized that administrative officials should take charge to prevent delays.
Highlighting the shortage of surveyors, Gowda confirmed that the Chief Minister had approved recruitment for vacant positions in the survey department. Applications have been invited for 746 surveyor posts and 34 Assistant Director of Land Records (ADLR) posts.
The reforms aim to resolve long-pending land issues and provide relief to thousands of families across the state.
