Karnataka Maritime Board CEO Inspects Sea Erosion Damage in Coastal Areas

Mangaluru: With heavy monsoon rains causing sea erosion in around 13 coastal areas, Karnataka Maritime Board CEO Jayaram Raipura visited the affected regions on Thursday to assess the situation.

The CEO inspected several areas impacted by the erosion, including Mogaveerapatna, Sarapali, and Seaground in Ullal Taluk.

Sea erosion is a persistent issue along this stretch, causing damage to houses and roads every year. Despite various government projects aimed at mitigating the impact, erosion continues to affect the region significantly.

At Mogaveerapatna berms were constructed under an ADB project. As the retaining wall collapsed due to strong waves, the local residents urged the CEO to expedite the construction of a new retaining wall between the berms to prevent further damage.

During the visit to Seaground, officials reviewed the ongoing sea erosion. Residents informed them that the concrete tetrapod-based retaining wall in Mukkacheri, built under the ADB project, had also collapsed, prompting calls for quick reconstruction.

In Battappady, sea erosion has further disrupted road connectivity. Also, several homes are at risk. CEO Raipura instructed local authorities to take immediate action to address the issue.

Karwar Karnataka Maritime Board Chief Engineer Prameet BS, Mangaluru Assistant Executive Engineer Rajesh Kumar A, and other officials were present.
